Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. Since her father's departure, the Ford family was managed by her grandmother, mom as well as godparents. As a young child, Ford battled obsessive/compulsive disorders and anxiety caused through word-related associations. Ford began to become attracted to acting in her teenaged years, she joined the National Youth Theatre. After being accepted to Sylvia Young Theatre School for brief time but Ford realized it wasn't the ideal location for her. Ford returned for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and, after the fourth time she applied she was eventually admitted. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler who is a character that was recurring in Doctor Who. Ford did not complete her degree until 1993. However, in 1991, Ford had made her first appearance on TV in a show called Surgical Spirit. At that moment, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate appeared in TV programs such as The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning in the Nineties. She worked on stage regularly, and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company's 2000-2001 season. Tate's stand-up comedy that she started adding to her set in the year 1996, was soon gaining her admiration.
