Audra is an artist who stands out because of her range and range of her skills as a performer and song writer. In 2015, she won a record breaking six Tony Awards as well as two Grammy Awards and Emmy Awards. Her name was also cited in Time magazine among the 100 most influential people and was given the National Medal of Arts - the most prestigious honor given in America for excellence in art by President Barack Obama. McDonald was born into a musically inclined family in Fresno, CA. She underwent classical vocal training from The Juilliard School of New York. She won her first Tony Award in 1994 for the best performance of a Featured actress in a musical called Carousel, at Lincoln Center Theater. The next four years she received two additional Tony Awards in the featured actress category for her performances in The Broadway premieres of Terrence McNally's show Master Class (1996) and his show Ragtime (1998) giving her an unprecedented total of three Tony Awards before the age of 30. She took home her fourth Tony for her role on stage in A Raisin in the Sun with Sean Diddy Combs. Then in 2013, she brought home her 5th Tony as well as her 1st in the Leading actress category. The year 2014 saw her make Broadway history by becoming one of the Tony Awards most decorated performer after she received six awards for her portrayal of Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill the role which also served as a stage for her Olivier Award-nominated performance in the 2017 season of London's West End. First actor awarded in four different acting categories, McDonald set a record for the amount of awards an actor has won. McDonald also has credits in other theatre productions such as The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (1999), Henry IV 2004 110 in the Shade (2006) Twelfth Nigh (2009) Twelfth Nigh (2009); it also was the Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut show, Shuffle Along Or The Making of the Musical Sense in 1921 and All That Followed (16) Frankie and Johnny in Clair de Lune (192019) and Ohio State Murders (2023) McDonald's debut as a dramatic TV actor was with the Peabody Award-winning CBS series Having Our Say The Delany Sisters' Early 100 Years. After that, in 1999, she co-starred with Kathy Bates and Victor Garber on the Disney/ABC television version of Annie. In 2000, she appeared as an recurring role on the NBC program Law & Order Special Victims Unit. The following year, she received her debut Emmy nomination for her performance in the HBO film adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning show Wit produced by Mike Nichols and starring Emma Thompson McDonald returned to network television in 2003 with the political drama Mister Sterling, produced by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. and with Josh Brolin. In 2006, McDonald joined the WB's The Bedford Diaries. The following year, she became a recurring actor on NBC's Kidnapped. McDonald was nominated for a fourth Emmy in 2016 for her part in HBO's production in the series Lady Day, at Emerson's Bar & Grill. The Bite was a six episode pandemic themed drama produced by Spectrum Originals in collaboration with CBS Studios. McDonald was first seen in the CBS show The Good Wife as a legal actress The Good Wife as U.S. attorneys Liz Lawrence and Liz Reddick from 2009 until 2018 reprised the role (now called Liz Reddick) in The Good Fight in the role of a Paramount+ season regular. McDonald was nominated to win three Critics Choice Award awards. She is currently appearing as a guest in Julian Fellowes' historical thriller The Gilded Age on HBO.
